TWL: RE: Raw Water Flow Alarm
Mon, Nov 17, 2003 2:36 PM
(I estimate the temp to be 100-120 degrees F.) Without raw water this shoots up to 180-200 F pretty quickly.

TWL: Re: Survey pages and photos

Jim's offer needs to be reduced by the cost of the remedies based upon real-world estimates. The problems that have been discussed can be corrected with money. Today, we learn that the engine has "sagged" on it's mounts. The engine surveyor should address this concern.

TWL: ford lehmen rebuild/options

what cost estimates should we expect in a complete rebuild? 2. better to replace? I've seen a few posts on the westerbeke... but costs on replacement? 2. we could drop the price of the boat an additional 10K and disclose the need for a rebuild. but my guess is this would seriously discourage any prospective owner.

TWL: Installing engine mounts (was Lehman on KK 42)

We have gotten into the habit of taking the "best case" estimate and multiplying it times 1.5 and 2 to get a realistic idea of what the end cost envelope will be. We have NEVER been wrong in this in five years of owning the boat. We've never had poor work done on the boat, and we've never had to have a shop do something again.

Re: Wi-Fi Growing
Wed, Nov 10, 2004 1:15 PM
It is estimated that roughly one-third of all cellular calls are placed in either a home or office in easy range of a hot spot. Hot spots continue to grow exponentially. Again an example: all airports that have Avis and Hertz car rentals will also have free hot spots in the near future. Why is this happening, aside from the customer benefit noted above?

Boat Physics

I estimate the weight of the standpipe davit with winch, boom, 12v battery (added below deck next to the standpipe) etc. to be less than 250 lbs. So I've essentially added approximately 400 lbs. to the back 6 feet of my 44 foot boat. My concern is my waterline.

DeFever 41 purchase survey results - gelcoat bubbles
Tue, May 23, 2006 8:49 PM
When I mentioned this to the owner later in the day, as we were getting ready to leave, he said that the boat had always had them since he bought it in 1998, and that he had a rough estimate of $18-20K to remove the existing gelcoat, and apply new gelcoat, hopefully eliminating whatever caused the bubbles in the first place.

Re: T&T: Dinghy Towing Device
Mon, Oct 30, 2006 6:37 PM
He estimates the weight of his dinghy at about 450 pounds. The tube device keeps the towing line out of the prop, prevents the dinghy from ramming the trawler, and also makes it track safely in following seas. He claims the device will not work with a high speed power yacht because of the prop wash, but it does fine with a hull that moves at 8 knots.

Fw: Update electronics - engine instruments and panels
Sat, Jan 13, 2007 3:00 AM
Checked with the local yard which last spring replaced her fuel tanks, and the manager/owner estimated that the panels themselves would run about $500.00 each. The current instruments are all VDO, and the engine hour and rpm readouts are combined into one unit; I don't care whether they are separate or combined, but the combined instrumentation is handy.
