3/31/07 Woodmont/Westhaven small gull search
Mon, Apr 2, 2007 1:29 AM
I estimated 250 Bonaparte's Gulls were feeding directly off Merwin Point. Some American Wigeon and large gulls were mixed in with the foraging group of Bonies. At 1:45pm, I discovered an adult Little Gull in basic plumage by checking every Bonaparte's type gull for white on the dorsal side of the primaries.

Re: [CT Birds] Anyone notice a surge in R T Hummers?

Now I have seen as many as 8 at one time and I'm guessing that 16 to 20 total would be a conservative estimate. I have them fighting 3 and 4 at a time over a single feeder, and often all 8 are in use. I added 2 to the 6 I had up.

LHP 9/17 + weird weather note
Mon, Sep 17, 2007 9:03 PM
After a morning of moderate winds mostly out of the northeast, there was a sudden shift to very strong wind (estimates ranged from 40 to 50 mph) directly out of the south; the temperature dropped very noticeably, a few very minor sprinkles were felt, and everyone dived on their gear to keep it from blowing away; the air was suddenly full of blowing leaves and

Yesterday (Thurs, 5/1) I estimated at least 15 as part of a large mixed flock of warblers on the shoreline of Mansfield Hollow Reservoir. I have been seeing them consistently in fairly good numbers for at least the last 2 weeks. I saw 1 today at Pachaug SF. Don Morgan coventry **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight?

You do not always need exact numbers - just very good estimates. Try to avoid using the dreaded "X" for sightings, as it could mean 1 or 100,000,000. This information will then be available for use on a global scale, which is much better than piles of paper locked in a room or files sitting on a hard drive.

If I don't give exact numbers for the species, they're estimates. Barry the Barred Owl was there, and he really does give a hoot, loudly and often. Especially today. Both seen and heard. I didn't hear any sign of Barreta, but I heard both of them a month or more ago, calling to each other.
