Re: [time-nuts] GPSDO with all-digital phase/time measurement?
Fri, Feb 28, 2014 8:04 PM
So, based on the OCXO short-term spec and a 1E-9 performance "requirement," could I not then estimate the loop time constant at ~100 seconds, and furthermore argue that my TIC has an effective measurement accuracy of 1/(26 MHz)/(100 s) = 0.4 ns ? Meaning, also, that SW sawtooth correction would be worthwhile? Mark KJ6PC

Re: [time-nuts] Helmholtz Resonator and other Maintained Oscillators

Estimating the losses and resonant properties is a key aspect, as they have huge impact on the on the audio. Also, there is a good book on acoustics by Beranek, of Bolt-Beranek-Newman if that rings a bell to Internet old-timers, which may be applicable.

The other thing that might save computational burden is that you don't need to try ALL possible time lags - you have an estimate, and so you can slide around just that

id=com.antmodstudios.eshail2linkbudget&hl=nl Any extra margin on C/N0 can be used to estimate permissible LO phase noise. Otherwise, you can put together a link budget in Excel or Libreoffice to add whatever parameters you want.

Re: [time-nuts] HP-5372A operation with no battery

One of the features of this device which may be curious to know, is that it was among the first (HP5371A it's sibling was earlier for sure) to use linear regression for frequency estimation. This way before the counters that would give rise to delta and omega counter naming. So, setting it up can give improved quick frequency measures. Cheers, Magnus

Re: [CT Birds] Good early Osprey migration at Audubon Greenwich yesterday

Yesterday we peaked at an estimated 800, of many species. I can't wait until some real Odonata-philes come down and show us how to do this. Hopefully in the future, we'll learn so much more and then have a laugh about our primitive tallying and ID skills!

LHP 200 hummers
Mon, Sep 4, 2017 8:16 PM
The count is the best tally counters can muster, relying as little on estimates as possible (and then only with overwhelming numbers). Anything in the 3-digit range is very doable.  Could there be some other hummingbird species mixed in?

we're rolling up our sleeves and need your help to save Pachaug Forest, scoping meeting on 5 June, Griswold

Apparently DAS considers it worthy to commence a perpetual state of disturbance dependent only on available funding they would provide, not to mention their projection of cost per square foot at a lowball estimate at least one-third beneath normal cost of state projects.
