Solar power for boats
Mon, Jan 31, 2011 10:04 PM
Before specifying a particular propulsion system we must calculate, or more likely estimate, the amount of power that is required at the propeller to move the boat at the speed we desire. The rule of thumb that a number of U.S. naval architects use is quite simple.

The MDEV will actually weight certain drift-samples higher than others, but this have not been used, but the ADEV drift estimator was used in its place. The correction for this is however straighforward. Also notice that the ADEV drift-line is calculated out from the drift estimator drift(tau) by multiplying with tau divided by the square root of 2.

Re: [time-nuts] Measuring ADEV with a PM6681 or CNT-81

A good estimate can be obtained by a limited number, m, of measurements (m=*100). Root Allen variance is expressed as a quantity divided by the square of the measurements of duration t, (i.e., 3 x 10-11/*t). .

Re: [time-nuts] NAVSTAR proteus GPS time and frequency unit

The estimated GPS time (tE) shall be in seconds relative to end/start of week. During the normal and short-term extended operations, the reference time for UTC data, tot, is some multiple of 212 seconds occurring approximately 70 hours after the first valid transmission time for this UTC data set (reference 20.3.4.5).

When we are busy with kettles of broad-wings the monarchs take a back seat on the clicker but we estimated approximately 3000 today. Still a very good count but nothing like the unprecedented day we had yesterday.

(good estimate) As you can see fuel costs make a big difference. If you stay in a marina every night and have a 36' boat your cost for marina stays will be about $16,000. (Based on an average of $1.15/ft per night for over a year. If you anchor out every night your marina stays will be $0.

US Boats in Canadian Waters

On the other hand, if you take lake 5 miles in diameter (fairly small) with say 100 boats and they dump a 20 gallon tank once every two weeks (keep in mind most boaters only use it 1 or 2 days a week and use the marina bathroom some of the time so this is a high estimate), there will be no signifianct BOD related impact on the lake.

"The Federal government, under the Stevens-Magnuson Act, mandated that, beginning in 2010, all anglers fishing coastal waters must register with Federal or State authorities so that they could subsequently survey marine anglers and develop better estimates of recreational catch and harvest.
