[Ontbirds] Cobourg harbour kittiwake Feb 13
Sun, Feb 13, 2011 8:58 PM
The harbour gulls are spectacular today - an estimated 5000+ total packed onto the ice, including 10+ Glaucous, 12+ Iceland, at least 3 ad. Lesser Black-backed, 1+ ad. Thayer's. I counted 44 Great Black-backed with one third of the flock still to cover when they all flew up before resettling. Scaup, Redheads, Canvasbacks, one coot etc.etc.

Re: Travel to New Zealand

Oddly, I finally got a China yard to talk to the guys in New Zealand to give me an estimate and they said they would need FIVE times the man hours as New Zealand; this WITH the original NZ foreman supervising in China! So I'm back to thinking of the completed boat - if I get one.

Re: Fuel Consumption

.>>> Paul, Good estimate, if he can go that slowly. Maybe he can on one engine. Some of these highly powered sport fishing boats can't even get down to no wake speed at dead slow idle, they must shift in and out of gear. If a range improvement is necessary to make the delivery, removing one prop will help substantially.

But, I want to know my exact level for cruising safety and refill estimates. However, my plastic tubes, which run from the bottom of the tanks to the top, have a positive shutoff lever, which would prevent any loss of oil, save the contents of the tube, in the event of complete removal.

Re: Diesel efficiency
Tue, Jul 20, 1999 2:18 AM
I wonder if someone would send me the figure(s) commonly used to estimate fuel consumption by a diesel engine. It's expressed in lbs. of fuel per HP per hour (I think). I had it once, but this darn computer has forgotten where I...er, "it" stored it. Thanks in advance. >Norm > > >
