TECs in cooling below ambient
Wed, Dec 23, 2020 7:57 PM
I plan to estimate the lowest possible operating temperatures for expected conditions, that avoids condensation, and not having to resort to special packaging. An essential thing for this is a dew point calculator. I found lots online, but this is my favorite so far. It's slider-based, so you don't even have to enter numbers.

Re: [volt-nuts] ...a guide to buying the HP/Agilent 3458A
Mon, Aug 3, 2009 5:18 AM
Over their lifetimes, I estimate those two units were powered up only 10 percent of the total time. So if someone powers-up their 3458A more of the time (e.g. running 24/7 all those years), maybe they stand a better chance of longer battery life? (These chips automatically disconnect their internal batteries when Vcc rises above 3Vdc.)

From the voltage dips on the capacitor you could estimate the (integrated) energy of the wakeup-phases. with best regards Andreas

Precision Voltage Reference available - UK only
Thu, Nov 3, 2011 9:12 AM
I estimate the size to be approx 60cm wide, 60 cm high and 40cm deep.  It is quite heavy (~15kg?), and is therefore available for pick-up only - hence the UK only ident!   The owner does not want anything for it, other than that it goes to a good home where it may be cherished, either as a museum piece or even put to some use!

August (Hawk) Migration at Lighthouse
Sun, Aug 12, 2012 1:14 AM
On 8/31/07, an estimated 1,250 Chimney Swifts went by, and just last year, on 8/23/11, an OS Flycatcher and 605 Eastern Kingbirds were tallied.   Listen, the dog days are over. It's time for Fall migration (Heck, the shorebirders know that the Fall migration is well underway by the 4th of July weekend).

White Memorial Cemetery Pond, Litchfield

I also counted 52 Wood Ducks there, estimating about 36 juvenile/first year birds. It was difficult keeping track with the various size differences and several males were in eclipse plumage already. I'm assuming some wood ducks nest there, but not at those numbers.

Indeed, last night/this morning's recording session yielded a total of 2,435 calls and 22 species – the highlights of which include: 22 veery, a significant push of 48 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 3 gray-cheeked thrushes, 1 MOURNING WARBLER, 30 CAPE MAY WARBLERS (truly unprecedented, and probably an excessively conservative estimate derived from 169 calls), 1 WILSON'S

At Lighthouse Point Park, I believe the biggest estimate in November was 3 million.  Can you imagine if THOSE, had alighted?
