If you intend to operate your boat at displacement speeds (that is, speeds below those where the hull rises up and rides on top of the water), then 90 to 100 horsepower sounds like a good initial estimate. I have a chart which estimates the horsepower required, based on the boat's length and weight, and the speed desired.

A conservative way to estimate frontal area is to multiply the beam by the height of the superstructure. An even simpler way is to multiply the beam by 3/4 of the beam. By this calculation, my Willard has about 100 sq. ft. of area. A Nordhavn 40 has 160 sq. ft. of area. A Nordhavn 47 has about 195 sq. ft. of area. A Nordhavn 72 has 330 sq.ft. of area.

DBSRX2 Issues: Gain, Noise figure and C/No degradation
Thu, Jan 19, 2012 4:48 PM
The problem is the C/No (Signal Power/ Noise density) estimated. I am comparing the C/No estimated with the USRP2 and the C/No estimated with a GPS receiver. Both used the same antenna. The point is with the USRP2 I measure 17dB less than with the normal GPS.

As you now observe on two frequencies, you can now on the difference between the measures estimate how much the difference of frequency picked up at TEC, thus one can separate out the TEC effect. By estimating TEX from those observations, the ionspheric effect can be removed from both observations.

I'd start with an estimate (Ramanujan's?) of the perimeter of the ellipse and divide by N to get an estimate for L. Step around and if L is too short, increase it by say 10%, and if it's too long, decrease by 10%.

RE: Brokers and Surveyors Responsibilities
Fri, Nov 27, 1998 8:21 PM
Usually your marine surveyor can make some estimates of the cost of all repairs or he may refer you to a boat yard for estimates. You need these INDEPENDENT estimates to negotiate. Don't take any broker's word for the cost to repair. If you commission the surveyor, then the resultant survey is yours exclusively and completely.

There has been much debate in the direct-conversion world about the best approaches to dynamic I/Q balance correction, and indeed whether automated estimation is even possible in the fully-general case.

Those updates, reflecting recent data, included higher estimates of the number of loans in default (and lower collections on such loans), increases in the estimated cost to administer the federal student loan programs, and increased participation in repayment plans that are based on the income of borrowers. > > “In contrast, the projected deficits for the

These values, when multiplied, give an estimate of the horsepower required to move a boat of normal proportions (presumably a monohull with "typical" prismatic and other ratios) in calm conditions.
