The s/n prefix indicates date of major revision, but this isn't a reliable way to estimate date of manufacture because HP / Agilent sometimes went very long times (years) between major revisions. For a better estimate of date of manufacturer, look at the date codes on the various I.C.s on various boards.

Much ado about anchoring, Part 2

If not, it can be estimated by Keith's formula which comes next. Thus a 40 ft. yacht, estimated to require 20 HP to go 5 kt. with a prop pitch of 8" at 1000 shaft RPM would have a drag of 312.5 lbs. in a 5 kt. current.

RE:TWL: surveys and fuel tanks

If you want accurate repair cost estimates, this takes time, don't ask for ball-park figures and be prepaired to pay extra for estimates. Parts prices in the boating escalate rapidly, no one can keep accurate figure in their head. If you want repair estimates tell the surveyor prior to the survey it make a difference in how the survey is approached.

I would estimate that more than 450 birders have left here happy after having seen the bird. Thank you to everyone for respecting private property in the area and keeping the birding community's relationship with the local residents and very pleasant and accepting one.

TWGL: Two vs. one engine

You can estimate fuel usage of two engines at 1600 RPM vs. one at 2000. Of course, I ended up with a single engine trawler, so I don't have to worry about that any longer! -- __________________ Keith Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

Diesel vs gas

I hear all the time about estimates of "rebuilding at 2000 hours", and even the manufacturer recommends overhaul at 10,000 hours on this engine. However, a mechanic once told me, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!."

Re: GL: Super efficiency boats

I ran the boat specifications through my conservative marine design program and came up with an estimate of 6.8 hp to move the boat at 6.37 kts. (S/L ratio of 1). And that's at the light displacement figure. The boat's transportation efficiency (Knots x Displacement/fuel consumed) is similar to that of my 32 year old, low tech Willard.

The facility, located in Rio Hondo Texas, will produce an estimated 4.4 million gallons of algal oil and 110 million lbs. of biomass per year off a series of saltwater ponds spanning 1,100 acres. Twenty of those acres will be reserved for the experimental production of a renewable JP8 jet-fuel.
