Re: Puget Sound advice requested

As an example we waited 6 months for a 30' slip in LaConner (about an hour north of Edmonds) whereas the wait for a 35' or 40' slip is estimated to be 2 to 4 years). Availability may be better on the other side of the Sound at Kingston or Poulsbo. Good luck, and let us know what you find!

Sounds right - see Cd values tabulated below for our wind drag estimates. These are same as used in the VPP I mentioned in last post. >For example, do sailboats calculate the area of the rigging? Must be included - rigging is a significant drag. Roller furling headsails are especially high drag.

Metal Boat Costs

That is based on estimates for the 46 foot steel vessel Gulliver, and was given by Custom Steel Yachts in the US southeast. Prices vary quite a bit from builder to builder, and tend to a large extent to reflect what they must pay in labor rates locally.

Re: Diesel efficiency
Tue, Jul 20, 1999 1:40 AM
I wonder if someone would send me the figure(s) commonly used to estimate fuel consumption by a diesel engine. It's expressed in lbs. of fuel per HP per hour (I think). I had it once, but this darn computer has forgotten where I...er, "it" stored it. Thanks in advance. It is called "specific fuel consumption."

TWL: Air Conditioning
Thu, Mar 14, 2002 11:06 PM
Hi: While waiting for the initial yard work estimates (due next wed) we want to start planning one of the planned upgrades. That is, air conditioning. Calculating the cubic feet, it seems that a comfortable level of AC will be abour 48000BTUs.

TWL: Little River Christmas Regatta
Sun, Dec 8, 2002 6:45 PM
Today 25 vessels took part with 20,000 estimated observers. Every year since, the local marinas have held a regatta on the Saturday following Thanksgiving to raise money and Christmas presents for the underprivileged children in the area. A van-size truckload of toys were collected, as well as several thousands of dollars.

TWL: Survey Tip
Sat, Jan 4, 2003 3:37 AM
After all of the above, I obtained estimates on what the costs of repair/replacement would cost--and renegotiated the selling price--all with full co-operation with the broker--and disclosing only those parts of the survey which were to my benefit.

The output the owner estimated would parallel my experience, with a peak output of 70-75 amps from their 100 amp rated alternator. Dan Stone M/V Slow Dance Albin 43 St. Petersburg, FL
