TWL: Anchor Meter info
Wed, Mar 20, 2002 7:36 PM
We had our anchor rode marked with paint, with some kind of special coded markings that were supposed to tell me how much rode was paid out, but the paint faded almost immediately so I really can't do more than estimate how much rode I have out. Not great.

And you'll understand why the estimate/quote is so high. Be prepared for sore knees, a few (hopefully minor) cuts, some bruises..and as you suggestion, some satisfaction! good luck, Rob Brueckner

TWL: Re: RE: Marine trade magazine & 10,000 containers.

A very conservative estimate for the Pacific coast of North America would be 7 to 8 million containers per year and ten million might be closer to the mark so the loss would be between 0.10 and 0.14% Now double that figure to include the Atlantic coast and the loss is 0.05 to 0.07% Finally, remember that the REALLY HUGE container ports are in Europe and Asia

TWL: Re: How much can a boat take?
Sun, Feb 22, 2004 6:07 PM
By now the height was an estimated 19 feet (6 feet above my fly bridge). Annnnnnnnd they were beginning to break at the very tip top. Uh-oh! Better get turned ASAP. The timing of the turn was a concern now. Well, finally I saw a slightly longer wave period and applied full power with the helm hard over.

TWL: Going slowww for fuel savings
Sat, Mar 20, 2004 12:59 PM
Let's say you estimate using 2,500 gallons annually at $1.50 without the conversion. A 20% savings would be 2500 x 1.50 x .2 or $750 savings annually....it would take 3,000/750 or about 4 years to recoup your costs of conversion.... ....plus you won't have any turbo repairs....and maybe you can sell them (two per engine l) on e-bay!!!

The one issue which is not taken into account in this estimate is the amount of fuel and water in the tanks which are located next to the outer hull in the bottom and sides of the boat. Mike Capt. Mike Maurice Tualatin(Portland), Oregon

The boat yard here would not quote the job doing it the conventional way but estimated $10 to 20K. I expect it would have been more than $20K!!

It gives a CPA time and range only and I have to estimate the bearing from the displayed track on the screen. The answer they gave me is that the ISO doesn't require a bearing. ISO's are not my thing. Maybe someone on the list can explain that. Ron Trossbach aboard SUNNESHINE, a Sabreline 36
