[Ontbirds] Results of the St. Clair NWA CBC
Tue, Jan 3, 2017 12:59 AM
American Crow was, as usual, the most numerous species, with an estimated 126,000 birds. One new species is now on the overall list: Nelson's Sparrow, but unfortunately is a Count Week only species. However it raises our cumulative total since the inception of this count in 1981 to 138 species.

Re: How to handle Survey results
Sat, Aug 8, 1998 4:46 PM
Before the survey you should discuss what the survey is for (insurance valuation, purchase decision, financing valuation, estimate of damage repair, etc.). You should also be on hand during the survey, and asking questions of your surveyor (what's this for, why is this discolored, does it really matter if the fire extinguishers have tags, etc.).

Magazines we can believe in
Thu, Dec 17, 1998 11:30 PM
Not exactly honest in my estimation, but it still goes on. The only way to get a magazine that we can believe in is to go the route of Practical Sailor and its Powerboat Reports sibling. No advertising, hence less vesting interests. Blue Water Sailing tried to do that and ran afoul of economics and had to turn to advertising.

(JTOL) [snip dealer estimates for other throttle settings.] >The 15HP is > 7.3l/h max usage That looks pretty linear to me, without running the numbers to see how linear it is. >They said designer Nic De Waal is probably correct that the 25 will be >more fuel efficient than the 15 in planing operation (lower RPM).

TWL: Fw: Junks
Thu, Oct 28, 1999 12:49 PM
One estimate is that aprox 200 boats have been sold to Australia / NZ in the last year as the second hand prices here at the moment are cheap. I keep seeing boats being cradled to go out of the country every week. Mainly USA Taiwan or European built. As a builder of Junks and live aboards try Bondway www.bondway.com or soltau@netvigator.com .

He didn't report the RPM but I estimate about 1600. Colin is not a TWL listree but I'm sure he would answer any questions about his experience with Cummins. colin@phuket.ksc.co.th He is continuing his trip to Thailand now.

TWL: Maintenance & Running Costs Of Boats.
Sat, May 20, 2000 11:46 PM
As to the rule of thumb about running costs being about 10% of the initial cost of the boat, that estimate certainly seems high, but it's probably sensible really.
