I estimated over 15,000 Snow Geese flying over and leaving the area. I watched them fly a LONG way with the bulk of the flock heading Northwest, but another large group heading straight west (or even slightly south).

A significant influx of COMMON MERGANSERS, estimated at 350, appeared on February 28, but had mostly moved on by the next day. BALD EAGLES, up to three individuals, were seen on three different days this week. A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK scattered the birds from one of the feeders.

AMERICAN ROBINS usually winter at Presqu'ile but seldom in the numbers seen this year (45 by one estimate and 30 by another). SNOW BUNTINGS continue to be seen at Owen Point. The wintering WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (perhaps two) at 83 Bayshore Road is easily seen feeding on the ground.

Estimates of REDHEAD numbers vary widely but are all in the thousands, creating a spectacular sight both in the water and when flushed into flight by a predator. Two male RING-NECKED DUCKS were present on Sunday.

Small flocks of AMERICAN ROBINS have been in various parts of the Park right up to the end of last week, but the first significant snowfall of the season brought an estimated 60 of them out into the open in the calf pasture. RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and COMMON GRACKLES have been lingering at feeders on Bayshore Road.

The design estimate > (~$20,000) for flopper stoppers from Krogen was, I believe, a way of telling > me to get lost (along with all the other purchasers of Krogen 39's).
