TWL: RE: Question on minimum electronics/charts for trip.
Tue, Jan 20, 2004 4:24 AM
Also, if you provide your estimated itinerary, I'll see if we can meet up at some point to say hello. Enjoy your trip. It sounds like a lot of fun. I have personally handled (conservative estimate): 2.1 million quarts 400K gallon jugs 200K 5 gallon pails 100K 55 gallon drums Further, I've probably observed or been a party to something like 5 times those amounts from a supervisory or otherwise peripheral position.

With an estimated 400 personnel at the station by then, the truckloads of water could not have started coming at a better time. Auxiliarist Rand Henke shared with those at Station New Orleans the health dangers of the post-hurricane environment and set up sanitary and hand washing stations and decontamination sites at Station New Orleans.

Cruising the PNW
Thu, Dec 1, 2005 6:51 PM
It is estimated that within five years, boat insurance will no longer be available in the PNW particularly if it's proven that the sperms are deliberately coming to the area to mess with the boats.

Shipping Huckleberry

Time and dates are only estimated until 2 or 3 days before sailing. We left Houston on March 6 leaving us plenty of time for unexpected delays. Our planned cruising time was 18 to 22 days. About the second day out, Yachtpath called and offered the option of loading in New Orleans. New Orleans is not one of their usual ports of call.

The boat was listed at $217K, deal was at $189K and the estimate for repairs after the survey was $147K. The buyer walked. Total cost from the 3 folks who were working for the buyer was $1850. Were they worth it? Heck yes.

Most SWL estimates are based on rope use in the construction industry where rope is often used for hoisting weights overhead. For these conditions stretch is undesirable. Also ropes tend to age and weaken in the sunlight and on exposure to the environment. A safety factor of 5 to 7 is generally suggested. This is in accord with Rudy's prescription.

Post EMYR update #4

(toilet uses 1/4 liter to flush urine, 1/2 liter to flush #2, and for estimate reasons, I use 1 liter per flush. Shower also goes to this tank but shower head is 1.75 liters per minute and even with guests on board, at anchorages we shower on the aft deck, and in port, at the marina's showers.) (So, where did 700 liters comes from????)

Re: T&T: small DC genset
Wed, Jan 7, 2015 2:03 AM
Hard to estimate, but likely the average will be on the order of 50% of max rate over the full charge to 100% state-of-charge. So this will take 650 A/H / 200 amps = 3.25 hours, and it will be longer if there are any AC loads on the inverter running tapping off some of the DC current.

It happens less than once per hour as an estimate. It has no ill effects for me, so meh.
