Re: T&T: GPS elevation
Mon, Mar 13, 2006 5:05 PM
I would estimate that our actual altitude was 32,000. I figured that was pretty good accuracy. Speed was about 400 knots and the speed update was a bit slow, after throttle changes which you can hear. Mike Capt. Mike Maurice Tualatin(Portland), Oregon

Fw: Natural roll period?
Thu, Sep 20, 2007 1:18 PM
> I found this paper from Oregon State University on a roll perior test & using it to estimate stability in small fishing vessels. It's quite informative & should answer all your questions & more. It's important to remember that roll period is not just about how comfortable your boat is but is also an indication of your vessels stability.

Re: T&T: Filling and fairing a steel hull

I estimate that a 35 foot hull that has welding ridges will need close to 1000 man hours to be fair... You have a real project on your hands... Simply call the steel boat builders, like Real Ships, etc. and ask what they use to fair their hulls...

Re: T&T: Propane, LNG and diesel

The US Government has estimated that pump prices for diesel fuel will increase between $.05 and $.25 per gallon as a result of the transition. And, according to the American Petroleum Institute, the domestic refining industry has invested over $8 Billion to comply with the new regulations." Frank Burrows

Re: T&T: Current calculating App

I have had great success through this region using Nobeltec's ETT(estimated travel time) and Best departure time coupled with Tides and Currents. It has been constantly accurate (not withstanding spring tides and major wind driven tides) permitting me to travel northbound and southbound with favorable currents.

shallow water ICW SC
Fri, Apr 24, 2015 12:05 PM
Beware of water that I estimate is 5.5 feet mlw about 1.5 miles North of the Ben Sawyer bridge 400 yards South of green spar 117A. We draw 7 feet and had to stop for 5 hours for higher tide. Also bridge tender had 'no idea' what the clearance of the bridge was and did not even have the lights on well after sunset until we approached.

Sat, Jan 12, 2019 3:50 AM
During the pre-purchase inspection on my 42’ Heritage East Trawler, the buyer’s surveyor said that the fuel injection pumps on both engines have never been updated and need to be, and the estimated cost of this is update $2600 per pump. The engines are 1986 Perkins T6.354 S/N TU7014OU754446M and TU7014OU754448M.

exhaust manifold service life
Thu, Jun 6, 2019 5:14 PM
I can imagine that with a raw water cooled engine the manifold might rot out in a few years (Gerr gives a tabulation from Boat US that estimates a five year lifetime wit a 50% chance of failure). I don't understand why an engine with antifreeze coolant flowing in the manifold would rot out the manifold.
