Re: [time-nuts] Space mission comes to an end because of a "computer time tagging" problem

Usually, we have been keeping track of what the "best lock frequency" is vs temperature, and with a temperature estimate, and the Doppler estimate, the range to sweep isn't all that big. As the signal sweeps across the receiver's bandwidth, the oscillator in the receiver locks to the uplink signal (and follows it).

It is only the start and stop interpolated cycles that are subject to quantization noise, and as more and more frequency estimates are averaged, the "portion" of the frequency estimate that is subject to the noise decreases linearly. I suppose.

Shows how to decide on the estimating system you need by the requirements you have and the money available, how to plan ahead, advanced tools, preparing reports, linking computer estimating with other software, and case studies of home builders using computer estimating. => http://www.contractorresource.com/partners/store2 ================================

TWGL: Great Loop in a sailboat?

I'm estimating a good 4-6 weeks to make it from NYC to Chicago. Chugging along at 6 kts will be slooooow. This time to her new home in Boynton Beach, I will be leaving "The Big Apple" (Sheepshead Bay) around 1 Nov. and estimate a leisurely trip of 5 weeks. I will be calling on many of those wonderful small Ports along the ICW and meeting again old boating buddies and new ones...Ah!

Cruising at 7 knots +/-, I am estimating a run from Marco Island to Marathon to be about 11 +/- hours. >> I calculate 13 hours. The total distance is 110 statute miles. 13 hours, or 11 hours for that matter, is too long to be fun. I suggest at least one intermediate stop at an anchorage in Little Shark River.

Basically the NOAA charts at present cover the most heavily traveled commercial traffic areas as a personal first estimate. They are probably one or two years from be complete by my guess - but what is there is good quality and, of coarse, very up to date. Happy boating, John Harris

From further discussions I found that he used a "rule of thumb" of about $5 per sq. foot for estimating prices. Larry Z ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

I can see how that would make things more simple, if you can estimate that I have x hours to make it to wherever the math become easy.. I guess I can work it from either direction. John On Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at 09:21AM, Georgs Kolesnikovs wrote: >John Ford wrote: >>Yes that helps quite a bit..

Some comments on the Overboard on CDN training rigged sail boat
Sun, Dec 10, 2006 6:51 PM
The CG estimates that she has about 36 hours survival time and are presently searching for her. My comment is to state that these trainees and crew should have used jack lines when on deck in any weather. I cannot understand that this procedure was not enforced.
