[Ontbirds] 2 Marbled Godwits still at Mitchell's Bay, Chatham-Kent
Sun, Oct 20, 2013 8:15 PM
Last year on October 23 I estimated 6000 in the same spot. Directions: Off highway 40 south of Wallaceburg, find Electric Line (west) (county road 42). Follow to Bear Line and make a short jog to the left over to Bay Line. Follow Bay Line straight into the village to the waterfront. A park and parking lot are on the right.

[Ontbirds] Tundra Swans, Bathurst St, East Gwillimbury
Sun, Feb 26, 2017 2:30 PM
I estimated there were 200 Tundra Swans this morning.  None of the Northern Pintails I saw yesterday were in evidence and I also didn't see any Canada Geese which were also quite numerous yesterday.Coming north from Toronto one could take the 404 to the Queensville S.R. and go west to Bathurst St and then north past Hochreiter Rd.

Passagemaker is now in the Amazon
Wed, Apr 11, 2012 10:16 PM
He estimates, not including major expenses such as haulouts, it costs $2,000 monthly to cruise. He outlines his purchase in this article: http://www.oceannavigator.com/content/buying-old-wooden-passagemaker ?Passagemaker? seems to be quite a chic magnet.

That's a nice problem to have :-) I suppose the first step would be to estimate your static wind drag (see Hinz for method, or ask me for a spreadsheet that does that given your frontal and beam-on areas), then see how it compares to the holding power tests.

TWL: Boojum yard visit
Tue, Aug 8, 2000 11:10 AM
Apparently Boojum's small size is keeping the shop from using more than one or two workers at a time, which is pushing out schedules although man-hours are not too far from original estimates. Current target is to be out of the joinery shop by early October and ready for launching sometime in November. Maybe by Christmas?

TWL: GPS & autopilots

It seems clear to me, based on my limited understanding of all position finding systems from celestial to GPS, that the only way I can know (not estimate) my ship's heading is by reference to a magnetic or gyro compass, or by measuring the relative bearing of the sun or other celestial objects.
