Van Dorn and Earl Hinz discuss the magnitude - but I don't recall any measurement backup to estimates. I've mainly been researching the para-anchor dynamic loads, because a cat on a bridle has so little yaw that the wave dynamics dominate. I wish I knew how to estimate the additional dynamic load from both yaw and wave action.

Getting to Ketchikan by Boat
Fri, May 13, 2005 6:30 PM
I estimate that you can save about another 100 miles by running straight from the North end of Vancouver Island to Ketchikan by going up Hecate Strait, just past Rose Spit. All in all you can save about 220 miles of fuel and at least a days time by this method.

Re: [time-nuts] GPS jump

GPS master time (the ground clocks) are fed into a fancy software filter to come up with a local time estimate. That’s massaged to track USNO (more software). The ground estimate is used to look at and steer the satellite clocks through still another software filter.

The underlying model is time errors and considering that the frequency estimate f = events/(t_stop - t_start) the non-linearities in the time estimations t_stop and t_start will be subtracted from each other. As the number of complete cycles of error increases with tau, the remaining time error within such a period will be divided by a tau.
