I estimate about one every 15 to 20 seconds. It is awesome to see even one...but this did not live up to the forecast expectations. I observed at 0530 EST. Bob Clinkenbeard M/Y Twin Screws 1964 Chris Craft Roamer 56' Under reconstruction in Savannah

TWL: Furuno Radar
Fri, Jul 4, 2003 1:28 AM
I had some damage to a radar antenna and am having it looked at to determine how repairable it is, and get a cost estimate. But in the worst case I may need to buy a new unit. It is a Furuno 1942 Mark II 48" Open Array. Does anyone know where, in the Seattle/Puget Sound area, a good price may be offered - or does everyone sell these things at MSRP?

Seemed to be a pretty realistic analysis, especially since the real numbers came in higher than I expected (typical of my estimating experience). Of course they're all sailboats, but many of the costs are similar. If it's a topic that interests you, I recommend picking up a copy. Bob Deering Juneau Alaska

They will add estimated shipping to their "matched" price, and then of course add sales tax. The sales tax sometimes makes it a better deal to buy over the web. I've always searched on big ticket items like VHF's, radar, etc.

Re: T&T: Engine life: Formula

>"...There is a very simple formula you can apply to estimate service life: simply multiply the cubic inch displacement of the engine times one. The result is the maximum amount of horse power you can have and still expect a reasonable service life. This formula would seem to break down when it comes to the Ford Lehman 120.

Re: T&T: The 3 Wire Boat

Several light switches are now failing again, and the repair estimate is over $400. He's considering ripping out the lights and replacing with conventional wiring and switches. Sounds like it's not ready for prime time yet. Mark Richter, m/v Winnie the Pooh in Appalachicola, waiting to cross the Gulf.

On ours, they estimated the shipping weight and the carrier (I don't recall which one) decided to "re-weigh", costing us substantially more for delivery. Laura & Artie NARCOSIS Downeaster Currently on the hard, Long Island, NY
