Fluid-flow static pressure formula
Thu, Jul 22, 1999 7:32 AM
Dear List, Does anyone have handy the formula for estimating static pressure in hose/pipe as a function of inside-diameter and rate of flow? I've not been able to turn up this info in NZ. I need to know in order to specify the hose sizes for our fuel transfer system.

TWL: RE: Replacing Teak Decks
Wed, Aug 7, 2002 12:47 PM
I received a "rough ballpark estimate" of about $10,000 to do 150 square feet (the main deck on a 36' Albin trawler). Its not rocket science but is tons of labor. good luck...

TWL: Re: Need for life rafts

The dealer says there is a fee ($150) to open it up and prepare a cost estimated of what it costs to make it operable (maybe a BU)...and there is a chance that it has deteriorated to a point it cannot be made operable. What's the consensus?

The operating manual for the boat suggests that the best way to calculate fuel consumption is to use a clock and estimate one gallon per hour when under power. Larry Z

RE: ELECTRIC SURVEY
Thu, Jul 22, 2004 12:59 PM
I had a well respected electrician from a well respected local yard prepare an estimate for my insurance company. The insurance company then insisted on having a surveyor inspect the boat. I agreed and had my elecrician attend the inspection also. I knew I was going to be OK when the surveyor told my electrician "I met you a couple of years ago.

Re: Still more on wind drag.

. >> This is a very conservative estimate and implies a coefficient of drag of 1.2 or greater. It has a safety factor built in. Most freely anchored trawlers will have the pointy end facing the wind so the actual coefficient of drag will be closer to .7 or .8 and the strain on the anchor rode will be less than your formula predicts.

AGM vs Flooded Battery Cost Effectiveness (long)
Fri, Mar 4, 2005 7:54 PM
Also, I should have mentioned in my post, that using the above cost figures, you can get a rough estimate of daily battery costs for providing dc current: at a typical 150 amp hours daily, the battery cost is about .32 cents (from line (f) or $.0032 times 150 or about $.50 daily.
