insurance
Thu, Dec 8, 2005 5:15 PM
Speaking of insurance...I don't do much 'price shopping' for insurance but have had BoatUS give me estimates a couple of times, though they were based on minimal information from me. I use Al Golden and Markel. When I moved the boat from SW Florida to the Tennessee River area, I had a nice decrease in premiums!

Re: GL: Battery-inverter-charger questions
Tue, Feb 26, 2008 4:39 PM
The smart chargers give the battery the best chance for a long life, and the number of discharge cycles will vary from user to user, so this is not too far off my 5 year estimate. Some day, I will soul-search and buy the Surrette batteries, but still have a lot of naval-contemplating to do first.

Re: [USRP-users] B205mini-I 1-PPS and 10-MHz

Once it figures that out, it automatically steers the internal VCTCXO based on the estimates of the internal-to-FPGA DPLL. My recollection is that you set PPS to "internal", and REFCLOCK to "external", and it will act appropriately. You *could* re-jig the FPGA code to have both a 10Mhz reference, and a 1PPS coming in on a GPIO--but that isn't built in.

Turkey Survey Reminder
Fri, Jun 1, 2007 3:20 PM
Excerpt: "To get a better handle on the number of turkeys in the wild - one estimate put it at 40,000 about four years ago - the DEP last year began a survey that seeks input from the agency's staff and the public. The agency wants reports of wild turkey sightings, especially hens with poults, as the young are known, between June 1 and Aug. 31. ...

Hammo and Cave Swallows 11/11
Sun, Nov 11, 2007 10:49 PM
Purple Finch, House Finch, American Goldfinch, and Pine Siskins were flying west along the coast in good number, which I'm not going to attempt to estimate. I also had a probable Common Redpoll flyby with a large black bird flock. I photographed this Hudsonian Godwit on our way out of the park around noon.

Manchester Landfill
Sat, Dec 15, 2007 6:36 PM
Evening is a better time to get a #'s estimate, but at least several thousand were there, mostly European Starlings, but with also 3000+ Common Grackles a few hundred Red-wings and some cowbirds. Atop Manchester's Mount Trashmore before dawn is a more interesting place to be than you might expect, although not nearly as interseting as it used to be.

East Haven-Ora ave

I estimate less than 400 large gulls were present throughout my 45 minute stay from 9:30 to 10:15am. Westhersfield Cove was almost entirely frozen and also lacked many gulls. I visited East Shore Park in New Haven without any luck on the Swallows or the reported Orange-crowned Warbler from Saturday's CBC.

Willow or Alder?
Tue, Jun 3, 2008 6:58 PM
Greg - please correct me if I'm wrong with your estimation. Anyway - Today at noon I took a walk in the powerline cut and heard a flycatcher song that was a little more Willow than Alder but yet still mixed... not quite a pure Willow song.

LHP Tuesday - 137 Hawks +
Tue, Sep 2, 2008 9:35 PM
A conservative estimate of the movement today was just about 2,500 . At any time all morning, you could look toward the condominiums or out into the marsh area and see Swallows going through. Bill Banks

I only heard them so I can't estimate #'s. Donna Rose Smith had five in a tree near the barn just a little while ago.
